Jack Cressey Future Leader Award Winner –  Dean Kilgour, 2007

Dean Kilgour  of Waschuk Pipe Line Construction Ltd. followed his father’s footsteps working in the pipeline construction industry. Like many others in our industry, Dean started as a labourer, but before long was an operator on ground engaging equipment.  From there he moved on to “Straw Boss” with the grade and clean up crews. This led to a credible working relationship with inspection, environmentalists, land men, farmers and landowners.

In 2007, Dean become involved in the contract side of the business. It is here where he excels in his current position of field construction manager.  Some of Dean’s duties include gathering daily information from all of the field crews, putting together daily progress reports, drafting mounds of correspondence and determining “out of scope work” contract issues. He also works very closely with client field construction personnel in daily tracking of materials, schedules and crew costs. In addition, Dean has demonstrated outstanding computer skills, and an exceptional way of communicating with people that has earned him the respect of co-workers both in the office and the field. Dean is enthusiastic, knowledgeable, personable and is a true team player – all attributes which have the makings of a great leader.
